SHOCK ABSORBERS
Based on experience in snowcross and mountain freeride there have been developed special shock absorbers for extreme riding on all types of snow surfaces. These shocks are only installed at Snowrider WENDIGO kits. The model of shocks with the HI-LOW Speed Technology enables separate adjustment for both fast and slow compression damping, and rebound damping. Besides all, the shocks have progressive spring allowing to adjust pre-load.
TRACK
Dominator 2.56 track was specially designed for the new model of SNOWRIDER Wendigo kit. Distincted by powerful and rigid lugs and unbelievably flexible belt basement. The track was built on experience of SNOWRIDER, Composit Tracks and feedbacks from snowbikers all over the world. The updated track brings to WENDIGO unmatched riding characteristics, thanks to advanced materials and production technologies, as well as due to special design of lugs. Soft motion, vibration–free movement, easy track rotation with the minimum engine power loss allowed transfer to a new quality level. This track was made to dominate on all types of snow surfaces with the most extreme topography.
DESIGN AND WEIGHT
New SNOWRIDER Wendigo kits have original features. All the system is built on a new platform, based on light-weight and robust milled frame made of aluminum alloy. The main drive shafts and auxiliary shafts became lighter and stronger (titanium alloy), that increased acceleration dynamics and decreased braking inertia. Drive system in gearbox is implemented with the toothed belt gearing. The drive shaft has elevated position ensuring low resistance while riding on deep snow, letting snowbike to “float up”, reducing possibility of bumping obstacles. These and other features make Wendigo the lightest and strongest snowbike kit among all SNOWRIDER models.
SKI
The ski SNOWRIDER Freeride with the width 310 mm is made of hi-impact polymer (UHMW). It is very smooth in gliding, does not wear out from skare and compacted snow and remains flexible and strong even in a biting cold. The ski has patented design, its geometry ensures easy lift over deep snow and sharp, intuitive snowbike control. The ski has a two-slope keel with a double blade, as well as side blades of an optimized shape made of abrasion-resistant steel. Ski spindle – light and sturdy stand of aluminum alloy. Modern hi-tech design and reliable construction. SCS system is supplied as an option..
CHASSIS FRAME
Frame is longeron-type, produced from light and tough aluminum alloy by means of milling. Has low weight and high rigidity characteristics. Stable against resonance oscillations and intensive operation. Frame structure is patented and is being manufactured with hi-precision CNC machines. The bearings on main and auxiliary shafts are serviceable. Lubrication system allows to considerably extend snowbike lifetime without replacement of main bearings. Additional bucket protects bearings from water ingress and strongly supports grease.
BRAKES
Inside of the frame there is integrated a fully isolated brake system which has four-piston caliper of a fixed type, that guarantees effective braking performance at any operational environment. Both break disc and caliper are strictly protected against snow contamination.
BRAKES CONTROL
Each Snowrider kit is equipped with armed Teflon hydraulic line and a high-quality brake master cylinder. The brake system is supplied with the refilled and pre-bled condition. Mounting of the kit becomes ever faster!
TRANSMISSION
Official supplier of sprockets and chain is JT company. The sprockets are produced under special order of Snowrider, and are manufactured as per supreme quality standards. They have the best durability and longest life cycle. The JT’s sealed chain, which is installed in each kit, has long reserve term of service and perfect workmanship. Toothed polyurethane drive belt from a leading European manufacturer is one of the strongest and the most wear-resistant for today. After multiple test drives performed in mountains we have no doubts - it is reliable!
GEARBOX
Light and strong aluminum sheaves and toothed belt with carbon fiber cord – all this endows the snowbike kit with the new benefits. With the belt drive system we managed to reduce power loss in transmission, resulting in quick throttle response and excellent riding performance. The gearbox has a particularly strong housing that can withstand impacts and reliably protect the transmission parts.
TUNNEL
Completely enclosed tunnel produced from aviation duralumin, hi-impact polymer (UHMW) and composite materials ensures strength and light weight of the structure. Due to special vibration absorbing material properties any resonance noise appeared while riding are gone. Ability of the material to withstand extra low temperatures without affect to its properties, its highest stiffness assure snowbike reliable and comfortable performance. The fully closed tunnel with the deflector in front was designed especially for Wendigo. Due to this feature much less snow is coming onto engine, exhaust system and footrests.
TAIL PART
Comfortable and heavy-duty handle bar located in tail part of tunnel supplements more stylish design.
RAILS
Light and rigid I-shaped rails have been made of aluminum alloy. The “aerial” rails design with bigger windows allows for easier snow drain from inside out, as well as provides additional decrease of unsprung weight. All that together makes suspension work even more comfortable.
SUSPENSION TUNING
The Snowrider Wendigo suspension can be configured for different kinds of riding conditions easily. The YSS shock absorbers have four settings. The first one is control of spring pre-load. Tuning this lets you configure the suspension for the weight of each rider. The second one is adjustment of rebound damping (30 clicks). The third and the fourth ones – are settings for compression damping HI-LOW SPEED.
Advice for tuning a Snowrider set
Configuring the snowbike suspension correctly will make riding as comfortable as it should be, so spend some time on this before you dart off into a snowy expanse. Settings, however, can change – and be changed – with riding style, weather and conditions around. We are going to mention only essentials and basic, average configurations of adapters.
FORK
The front fork of the motorcycle should be made more rigid. With a ski instead of a wheel the snowbike encounters greater resistance – however smooth the snow, it creates drag. Thus, you should tighten up the springs somewhat, screw in the compression-decompression bolts to increase the resistance of oil in the fork. For maximum effect you could even replace the springs for a more rigid kind or pump up air forks. Using a more viscous oil (10-20W) would also make a difference. A harder fork will let the fork “float” higher over the snow and move the center of gravity a little to the back. This will, in turn, elevate the front somewhat – helpful when maneuvering.
SHOCK ABSORBER
The Snowrider track set lets you adjust shock absorbers springs' preload and the speed of their decompression. Since the shock absorbers are located one behind the other, you can experiment with various settings for the front one, the rear one, both and so on. On the whole, tighter springs and slower decompression (with a screwed-in bolt) are more appropriate for aggressive riding with sharp turns and leaps and hard surfaces. Gentler settings will improve the snowbike’s cross-country ability as the suspension will be able to compensate for uneven, loose snow and adapt to it. It is better not to tighten up the shock absorbers overmuch if you plan on rolling over snowdrifts.
It is possible to make one shock absorber more rigid than the other. This will change the profile of the Snowrider set and redistribute the weight. The absorber closer to the bike affects its “floating” on slow, the one more distant is more involved in leaps, strong compression and hard-surface rides.
